The idea
Paste Dutch text, get it narrated, and read along while every word is
highlighted as it is spoken. Tap anything you do not know for a
grammar breakdown, star it, and export the lot to Anki.
Library
Every chapter anyone here adds, with your own progress on each.
- + New chapter
- Paste Dutch text, or fetch a web page and trim it before it is narrated.
Blank lines separate paragraphs; single line breaks are joined back up,
because a break mid-sentence costs a second of silence in the audio.
- Tap a chapter
- Opens it and picks up where you left off.
- The subtitle
- Length, word count, the voice and speed it was narrated with, and who added it.
- ↻ Re-narrate
- Redo the audio with your current voice and speed. The text, your place and
your saved cards survive. Refused if nothing would change.
- ✎ Rename
- Retitle it. The audio is untouched.
- 🗑 Delete
- Removes the chapter and its narration. Not undoable.
Reading
- Highlight
- The word being spoken is lit as the audio plays, and scrolls itself into view.
- Double-click a word
- Breakdown in the panel: dictionary form, part of speech, and the meaning
in this sentence. Verbs give the infinitive and reunite separable ones
even when the prefix is stranded at the end of the clause. Nouns give de or het
and the plural. Adjectives give the base form.
- Click a word
- Offers where to start listening: the whole sentence, one word earlier —
useful when you missed the run-up — or from that word.
- Zipf
- How common the word is: 5 and up is everyday, below 3 is rare. Computed locally,
not guessed. Useful for deciding whether a word is worth a card.
- Hear it slowly
- Replays that one word from the narration at 0.6×.
- Explain the sentence
- Translation, a word-by-word list, and a line or two on the word order.
- A− / A+
- Text size, remembered on your account.
The player bar
- ▶
- Play and pause. Your position is saved as you go.
- Speed
- 0.6× to 1.35×, on top of the narration speed the chapter was made at.
- 🔁 Loop
- Repeats the sentence the playhead is in, until you turn it off.
- A–B
- Press once to drop A at the playhead, again for B, and it loops between them.
A third press clears it.
- EN
- Shows the current sentence in English along the bottom as you listen.
Deck and Anki
- + Save ★
- Puts the word or sentence in your deck with its meaning and the sentence it
came from. Saving the same word from a different sentence makes a second card,
because that is a genuinely different card.
- Green underline
- A word already in your deck, marked as you re-read.
- Export .apkg
- Downloads a deck for Anki on the Dutch-EN-Audio-Model
note type you already use, so it merges with your existing decks rather than
making a second one. Cards carry Dutch audio and English audio; sentence cards
use the real narration, cut from the chapter.
- Re-exporting
- Updates the notes already in Anki instead of duplicating them, so exporting
often is safe.
Account
- Voice and speed
- Used for new chapters and for re-narration. Changing them does not touch
chapters you already have — use ↻ for that.
- Sharing
- Chapters are shared with everyone who has an account here. Progress, deck and
settings are yours alone.
- Invites
- Signing up needs a code. Ask whoever runs this server for one.
- Password
- Changing it signs out your other devices but keeps this one.

Worth knowing
- Analysis
- Cached on the server by word and sentence, so looking a word up twice
is free and instant. Only genuinely new words cost anything.
- Narration
- Made once and stored. That is why a voice change needs a re-narrate, and why
re-narrating is quick the second time.
- Offline
- Not yet — chapters need a connection.
